■What is “Kaleido Star”?
“Kaleido Stage”.
It is a globally popular entertainment show that is neither a circus, nor a musical, nor a magic show.
The main character, Naegino Sora, is a 16-year-old girl.
As a child, she remembers watching the “Kaleido Stage” with her now deceased parents, and longs to be a part of it.
She came to America alone from Japan, overcoming her stepparents’ objections, to audition for the show.
Though she was late to the audition, she was accepted as an exception, but she was met with cold criticism from those around her.
In the midst of all this, Sora overcomes all sorts of challenges with her innate determination and natural “charm”, as well as the friendship and conflicts with her peers, in order to become the star of the stage, “Kaleido Star”.
This work was created by Junichi Sato (original creator and director), who also worked on “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” and “Ojamajo Doremi”, in pursuit of “timeless emotion” and “real entertainment”.
The dream team includes character designer Watanabe Hajime (Akazukin Chacha, Kodomo no Omocha) and series composer Yoshida Reiko (The Cat Returns), and this collaboration brings excitement to families around the world and fantastical, expansive stage images colored by GONZO’s proud digital technology.
It conveys “the warmth and severity of a human drama” and “true emotional emotion.”
